MINOR GAMES

Minor Games to be included in the PHYSICAL EDUCATION LESSON
1) Finding out the leader (concentration).
The subjects are asked to stand in a circle. One among them called “IT” is asked to stand out of the circle and a leader is chosen from the rest. The leader will leads the group except the “IT”. Leader will do any action that will be imitated by the rest in the group. For example if he claps all the others will do the same and when he changes the action all must follow the action. The duty of “IT” is to find who the leader is? If he succeed in finding out the LEADER, he will be appreciated and the LEADER will be the next ‘IT”. The game will be played for 10 minutes.
2) In the pond, on the bank(co-ordination).
The subjects are asked to stand in a circle and when the investigator says loudly “IN THE POND” all the subjects will jump in-to the pond (circle), if anybody fails to do that or hesitate to jump in, will be out of the game. In the same way investigator says “ON THE BANK” all the subjects will jump out of the pond(circle), if anybody fails to do that or hesitate to jump out will be made out of the game. Thus the game will continue by saying “in the pond, on the bank” and sometimes repeating the same command and if the subjects cannot follow the correct command they will be put out. Thus the game will be continued till the last person. He will be declared as the winner.
3) Tunnel ball relay (flexibility).
The group is divided in to two equal groups. They are asked to stand in 2 lines one behind the other. Each group is given a volley ball. They are asked to stand in the stand-at ease position with released hands. On the command “Start” those who are standing in front must pass the ball to his team mate (standing just behind) by bending forward between his legs. One who collects the ball pass it to the person standing behind over his head. The 3rd man collects it from the top and pass it to the person standing behind by bending forward and between his legs. Thus the ball will be passed to the back and the team which pass the ball successfully to the back will be the winner. Here forward and backward bending exercise is done that will help to do sit ups and sit and reach exercises.
4) Snatching the kerchief (endurance, agility & speed).
The subjects are divided in to 2 groups (of equal numbers) and asked to stand facing each other 10 feet apart. The teacher takes a convenient position in the middle. They were given numbers 1.2.3. . . from either side. A circle is drawn in the centre and a kerchief is kept. When the teacher calls a number the student standing on either side with the same number has to come forward and try to collect the kerchief. Whoever wins in collecting kerchief without being touched by the opponent gets a point. The team scoring more point in the stipulated time will be the winner. This game will help them to improve endurance, speed and agility. This game gives mental happiness to the participants.
5) Dodge ball (endurance, agility, speed, etc;)
The subjects are divided in to two equal groups. A circle is drawn and group “A” is asked to stand inside the circle. Group “B” is asked stand around the circle and are given with a Handball/ Volleyball. The group standing in the circle can move freely and can run or jump only inside the circle. Others standing in the circle try to hit the group inside with the ball only below the knee. They can pass the ball to their team mates and those who are hit below the knee are out and the group standing in the circle will get one point. The game will be played for a definite time and the group standing inside will become the hitters. Whoever gains more points will be the winners. This game gives the participants a feeling of security and gives happiness more than physical health.
